koloff tourney six

Scott and Matt, in one of their most ridiculous and funny shows yet, yammer about all manner of things, including Scott’s relocation, Matt’s dating advice, and assorted wrestling tidbits. Scott sits down with Adam Page and his rival/friend/sometime tag partner Justin Flash to discuss his Country Jakked tag team in PWX, his Ring of Honor prospects, and more. Scott fires off a disjointed opening rant about how Americans treat our beautiful people, and Houston humblebrags a Manaconda Minute.

Scott chats with new CWF Rising Generations League champion Chet Sterling about his controversial victory over Chris Lea at Battlecade 2013, his quick rise to the top of the RGL rankings, and his plans for the future. Follow Chet on twitter @ChetSterlingCWF or on his Facebook page. Leave him some hate mail!

Scott and Matt break down Battlecade once they had a chance to digest it, and discuss the real match of the year, the 22 minute thrill ride provided by Arik Royal and Trevor Lee. They also discuss a lot more; stay tuned to the end when they drop in with a special added segment about the big CWF tag team championship win by the new Rage and the Machine (Michael McCallister and Mecha Mercenary.)

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! Bored yet? Scott and Matt broke down the Top Ten Matches of 2013. As usual, Scott picked five and Matt picked five. Along the way, many jokes were told, and Houston collapsed on the couch at least twice. Find out why!

killbillies

Scott visited the CWF Mid Atlantic Sportatorium this week and discussed qrestling, training, and moonshine with the Killbillies. “Barefoot” Bobby O’Neal joined Arik Andrews and Evan Banks for six-man tag action with their old trainer Shawn Christian and the new tag team of Smith and Weston, and the antics of the region’s most popular tag team drew Scott’s interest. Manager/Commentator Nick D stopped in to recite some Shakespeare, and Scott and Houston blathered on like usual. Have a listen!

HoustonAttemptsSuicide

Scott is a little giddy this week, as the Manaconda has returned from a hospital stay necessitated by an abdominal disorder that frankly frightened the living bejesus out of him, Matt’s family, friends, and Rob McBride (who gets this week’s special producer credit for posting the above photo, where Matt attempted an Arabian Press against doctor’s orders. To say this created some drama at Manaconda Manor would be understating things).

After pleasantries and a rant from Scott we haven’t seen since last Thanksgiving, Scott and Matt discuss their five favorite supercards. They did a draft, so they included TEN supercard series AND an honorable mention each. Fans of WrestleRock and SuperClash will be elated.

Scott and Matt will return next week for a regular program, hopefully with an actual non-feline guest. Email your thoughts and well wishes for Mr. Houston at podcast@thisweekinwrestling.net. You can also say hello to him on Facebook His fan site (where you can buy exclusive Manaconda gear)is http://Manaconda-mafia.net. You can follow Matt on twitter @ManacondaMatt, and Scott is still tweeting @scotteiland.

ric converse

Former six-time CWF Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion “The 1st” Ric Converse (@ricconverse_1st on Twitter) joins Scott and Matt for this week’s episode discussing the strange implosion of his “Aftermath” stable, the attack on William L. Cross by Trevor Lee, Chet Sterling, and Ben Tyler, and his upcoming Triple Threat match against Arik Royal and “The Dog-faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner on March 23 in Thomasville. Ric discusses his in-ring philosophy, how he’s been able to maintain longevity with one company for so long, and his relationship with trainer Ken Spence. Matt Houston then provides Scott with Ric’s “Five Names,” and Ric’s compelling reactions are podcast gold.

In the National News segment, Scott sadly discusses the breakup and rebooting of the AIWF that gave him his start, including a surprisingly somber Matt Houston. Scott discusses the parts of the abrupt departure of the former AIWF World Champion that bothered him and the part that didn’t, attempting to draw a distinction between what happened and how it happened. morton ricky

“Rock n Roll” Ricky Morton joined Scott and Matt Houston for an interview previewing his seminar scheduled to take place January 19 at the AIWF Mid Atlantic Events Center for his seminar Jan 19 in Mount Airy, NC. Ricky discusses what to expect from his seminar and answers questions about WCW, the Alexandra York Foundation, and much more.

Scott and Matt then report the events of Pure Pro Wrestling’s New Years Knockout event, where it was revealed that Scott would be taking over as the promotion’s Commissioner. Something happened later in the card to push Scott’s new job to the back pages- Matt Houston was cleanly pinned by longtime nemesis Justin Flash. Justin Flash is the new Pure Pro Wrestling Heavyweight champion. Jimi Love also shocked the crowd by turning on Justin Flash, suckerpunching him after his title win. Find the details here. Scott discusses what his plans would have been in the normal course of action, but fans will have to wait until February 9 in Pelham to find out what happens next.

Scott also playfully deals with a fan question by comparing Matt Houston to Mark Henry:

Is this Mark Henry or Matt Houston? Scott says it's very hard to tell the difference.

Is this Mark Henry or Matt Houston? Scott says it’s very hard to tell the difference.

Is the above picture Matt Houston? Or is it WWE Superstar Mark Henry?

Upcoming events:

Jan 18-19: AIWF Hall of Fame Weekend featuring a seminar with Ricky Morton
Jan 19: CWF and Hot 102 present Wrestlejamz, featuring a massive ten man tag match Team Killbillies vs. The All Stars
Jan 26: North Carolina Superstars of Wrestling: Champion Louis Moore defends against NWA National Champion Damien Wayne in a title vs title match. Also, Robert Gibson faces Robert Roma in a Battle of Guys Named Robert, Raven presents a seminar, and much more.

February 23: Ivan Koloff Tag Team Tournament, Clayton NC.

Scott also talks to NCWA superfan Tyler Jernigan about his friend Michael Smith, who tragically died in 2012 after a fall. Tyler was presented with a plaque honoring Michael at the NCWA event in December, and he sat down one-on-one with Scott to talk about it.

All of that plus an epic Manaconda Minute!

Longtime ECW and independent wrestler Mike Maverick (AKA Jack Dupp) joins Matt and Scott this week to promote the Chinlock for Chuck benefit show January 15 at North Durham High School in Durham, NC. Mike discusses his career as a WWE “enhancement talent,” his pre-training wrestling days, how he met Chuck Coates (and, later, Shane Helms). Mike walks through how the “Chinlock for Chuck” came to be, how Chuck is beating Hodgkins lymphoma, and how the mainstream media loves to accentuate the negative when it comes to professional wrestling.

Scott and Matt then recap another stellar CWF Mid Atlantic event, the first of 2013, and break down the results and future events. Be sure to follow CWF Mid Atlantic on twitter @cwfmidatlantic. Also follow them on Facebook, and their website is regularly updated. The CWF returns to the Mid Atlantic Sportatorium on January 19. We’ll discuss that show and the Zeban family benefit show Jan 26 next week.

Scott and Matt then briefly preview the AWIF 21st anniversary show Jan 18 and 19. On Jan 18, Scrapyard Dog faces Dick Foley in a “fans bring their own weapons” cage match. Remember – from 2-5PM on Saturday, Jan 19 Morton will be conducting a seminar for all talent – wrestlers, managers, valets, etc.

Jan 26 at the Wentworth Armory “Rock n Roll” Robert Gibson has been announced as a late addition and will be taking on Robert Roma in singles action. Also, the mysterious man from the Bowery has been added to the event. Raven, the former ECW superstar and WCW Television champion, has been signed.
